Del Cap Recap: Belle beats Princess (and more)

This year's Delaware Handicap was bad with only 1 standout horse Princess of Sylmar. Except something happened, Belle Gallentey didn't get that memo as she went gate to wire to win this year's Delaware Handicap. Princess was second with Flashy American finishing in third.

Belle (whose by After Market and her third dam is BC Juvenile Fillies winner Meadow Star) was 5th in the Phipps that was won by Close Hatches. Honestly Princess didn't get the world's best ride, but to me there was more to it. She didn't have that kick she usually does. Granted it was a bit warm today (however it is Summer) there was just something different. I really can't put my finger on it though. No excuse for Molly Morgan and I figured Bryan's Jewel was in over her head, but she had done well at Delaware in the past which is why put her in third. Still congrats to Belle, but she has a long way to go to be in Close Hatches, a healthy Beholder's company.

Maybe this division has finally lost a bit of the luster that it's had since the Azeri to Ashado to Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra to Royal Delta days.

In other news:

Slade Power won the July Cup at Newmarket, but how about the American in the race Undrafted. Owned by Denver Bronco Wes Welker, he finished fourth and put himself in position to being the favorite for the Turf Sprint.

Ben's Cat could be the only horse to have a chance to beat him as he once again won the Parx Dash. However, he's not BC nominated. More than likely the Turf Monster which he won in 2011 and 2012 will be next for him.

Saratoga and Del Mar are just around the corner!

The Fugue was retired due to injury, not sure who she'll be bred to next year yet.

That's it for now, more posts coming soon.
