There are pros and cons to both.
Saratoga
Pros
- Oldest racetrack in the US
- Travers and/or Woodward weekend is when I would go
- Quality stakes horses, as well as some up and comers
- Never been to that region of NY
- Weather might be hot and humid since it is August.
- Horses who I might be looking foward to seeing might not race
- Not much in the area
- I'm not the world's biggest fan of NY as it is and there is a chance I might be going to the Belmont
Lexington
Pros
- Keeneland!
- Kentucky Horse Park (which houses the Hall of Champions where Funny Cide lives)
- Old Friends (where Commentator lives)
- Going on a tour of the horse farms
- Never been to Kentucky
Cons
- No racing (since I'll be there for the sale)
- The shuttling stallions will be in the Southern Hemisphere (which means no Hard Spun, Street Sense, Invasor, Artie Shiller, Medagalia d' Oro, etc. :()
- There might not be any Open Houses anyway since those are normally in Nov. since that's when the Breeding Stock sales are.
Transportation wise I would need to switch from train to bus if I where going to Lexington and I have options for Saratoga. I'll let you know which one I chose to do. :)
