Racing Post which is based out of England has an app where you can download each days paper right on you're iPad. The downside is that you do have to pay for each issue, with that being said, they do give you a 30 day free trial after you sign up on the app to see if it's for you. I read several of their Frankel issues from there. The now defunct Thoroughbred Times never got on board with creating an app, and as far as I know the DRF still has their wagering calcuator. As for the Bloodhorse, they do have a racing replay app, but I'm not a big fan of it. That being said, if they can integrate their mobile website into an app, I would be internally grateful. Trainer Magazine which as far as I know was the first racing magazine to have an app for the iPhone/iPad and The Irish Field also have apps.
Games
This has always been a strong point for the iPhone and iPad. Even though, I'm not a huge game person when it comes to those two products. One of my favorite games is Starters Orders 4 where you can breed and train you're horses on three different levels, Easy, Medium or Hard. You can also choose how you want them to be trained (weather it be auto or manually). The downside of the game is the aging process. Since the game was released in 2011, that is the first year you begin with. So hopefully a Starters Orders 5 for iPad comes out soon! Another game is Race Horse Champions. I'm not a big fan of this game as it's a bit difficult to understand right away. However, there are Arabian and Quarter Horses in this game as well as Thoroughbreds. There is both a free and paid editions, so you can try it out at first to sees if you would want the paid edition.
Racing
The most important racing app that a horse racing lover should have. Even though as I stated before that Bloodhorse has a replay app and Equibase still has their yearbook app, there are two apps that I've discovered in the past year or so that are awesome! I should note that these apps are designed with the iPhone in mind, but will work on the iPad as well. The first one comes from Australia and is called Aus Racing. It does take a little used to, as when I first used it was difficult to find the video. However, after a little bit of looking I found it and was pretty impressed by the quality of the feed. BTW they also offer the feed online at their website, however you need to sign up to get it and I don't think the app or the website works in Australia. You also can not see replays on this app which is a bit of a stinker as well. The second app is I think right now only on iPhone, but they are working on an Android verison. That is Horse Racing Now. Put together by trainer Kenny McPeek, the app offers both live video of many tracks around the country as well as replay from those same tracks plus NYRA.
Breeding and Sales
Equineline has a Mare Produce Record app that is pretty nice. The downside is that you do need a subscription in order to view any of the none free records that are available. In Europe, Goffs and DBS both have apps where you can view their catalogs. Both have the same features, and are free. Finally, Darley has an app that features their stallions. The downside of this though is that as far as I can see its only for the European and Australian stallions. However, since many of the US stallions shuttle, they should be available on the Australian version.
