Happy Birthday Storm Cat!

Even though the universal birthday for Thoroughbreds in North America is Jan. 1st, today is a very special day. 30 years ago, one of Secretariat's best foals Terlingua foaled a Storm Bird colt in PA. That colt, Storm Cat would become a G1 winner, but more importantly a very successful stallion. With that, a very Happy 30th Birthday to Storm Cat!

Here is his Young America win over the likes of Danzig Connection and Groovy: http://youtu.be/j3LKPbqWxF8

Also as a special treat, some of my favorite Storm Cat foal races.

Storm Flag Flying winning the race named in her grandmother's honor, the Personal Ensign: http://youtu.be/yB4HEie5Jy4

Cat Thief winning the 1999 Classic and helping his stablemate Charismatic (who is a grandson of Storm Bird himself) lock up Horse of the Year: http://youtu.be/omuvdzdAl1A

Bluegrass Cat winning the Haskell: http://youtu.be/CBPznvxXD-8

A stakes history post will be coming in the next few days.

Goodbye Overbrook and an injury to Dunkirk

Well it's an end of an era at Overbrook Farm. They have decided to disperise their remaining horses, breeding wise and yearlings. The big prize will be 1996 Derby winner Grindstone, of course he is the grandfather to this year's Derby and Belmont winners, Mine That Bird and Summer Bird (both by Birdstone). Overbrook is most known however for the Storm Bird penisioned stallion Storm Cat. So the question is will the actual farm still be owned by Overbrook? Or will Storm Cat be moved to a place say Old Friends. Stay tuned, for more details.

Meanwhile Dunkirk came out of the Belmont with a fracture. Surgery was proformed at the new Ruffian Equine Center which is right across from Belmont. Ironicly, Dunkirk is not the most famous Belmont runner-up that Dr. Patrica Hogan has done surgery on. That belongs to Smarty Jones, when he was a 2yo.

Also I found out that the Roman Ruler colt that I'm following, is trained by Todd Pletcher. Hopefully Rule does well with him.
