Viva Brazil! Gloria de Campero, the Brazilian born, French trained horse won this year's Dubai World Cup over two longshots. With the exception of Gio Ponti, the American's got their butts kicked in this race. Most of them finishing towards the back of the pack including the horse that I said was overrated in Furthest Land. Overall it was a mixed bag for the Red, White and Blue. While Kinsale King returned the trophy of Speed to the US in the Golden Shaheen and The Useal Q.T. and Take the Points had good runs in the Duty Free, oy Presious Passion. If any of the Americans where to win, he was the one who had the best chance, instead he finishes up track, but the winner, 2nd and 3rd place finishers are not that bad. Then again they are Dar Re Mi, Buena Vista and Spanish Moon (I wonder if he gave the asst. starters fitts). California Flag finished third in the new race, shame the Sunshine Sprint wasn't at SA this year, he could have had a chance in that race.
The Tables Turned in this case is that Gloria finished uptrack behind Gio in last year's Arlington Million. Not sure what's next for him, but it will be interesting if he invades again. However with the Americans having an even stronger turf division this year (other then Gio, TTP, PP, QT and Court Vision), but add in the Kitten's Joy foals, Interactif (if this KY Derby thing doesn't work out) and a few others including ownership mates Forever Together and Rainbow View (I think RV went to Graham Motion, where as FT is with Jonathon Shepard).
The UAE Derby was marred by the breakdown of Timely Jazz, Norway's first entry into the Carnival. Sadly he was euthanized after the race.
As for the three preps for the Derby, Dean's Kitten won the Lane's End over Northern Giant. Meh, I think both of those two horses are synth specialists. Mission Impazable, however gives the already strong Pletcher string another round. He could be someone to keep an eye on if a fast pace happens. Unfortanlly Ron the Greek seems to be the oposite of Musket Man, a one hit wonder :(.
The Sunland Derby hasn't gone off yet at the time of posting. However I will talk about it on tomorrow's chat. Starts at 7pm EDT and will go for about an hour. Also don't forget that Rachel's Story starts at 9pm EDT tonight on HRTV. For those who don't have HRTV, usally the Inside Information episodes end up on Bloodhorse's website, so my guess is just cross your fingers that happens.
