The NBA has the Larry O' Brian Trophy, the NHL the Stanley Cup, the NFL the Vince Lambordi Trophy and the MLB has the Comminishers Trophy. What do these four trophys have in common? They are all awarded to the winners of the NBA Finals, NHL Finals, Super Bowl and World Series champions respecitvly. The Breeders' Cup is the same way with horse racing, when some of the World's greatest Thoroughbreds come to take on each other. Of course this year's BC will take place at Churchill.
And like the four major sports leagues, horse racing has playoffs... sort of. For the next two months, you'll be seeing horses making their final starts before the BC. Especially for the 2yo's who will be getting ready for next year's Classics. Alot will be on the line this year as for the first time since 2007 the races will be held on a convential dirt surface. It will be interesting as some of the West Coast horses and the Euros have never run on dirt before. Add in it could be one of the deepest Classics ever (Zenyatta, Blame, Quality Road, Richard's Kid and others to be detirmined) as well as one of the deepest Ladies Classics (Blind Luck, Devil May Care, Havre de Grace, Rachel Alexandra, Life at Ten, Evening Jewel (possibly), among others).
It should be a fantastic 35 days leading up to the first Friday and Saturday in November. The first weekend preview for the BC Playoffs will be next week, on the count on I have to finish the Hard Spun Foal posts ASAP. However, I promise that next week will be full of some great posts.
