Yesterday, horse racing as a whole lost one of it's toughest competitors. 2011 BC Turf, and 2013 Dubai Sheema winner St. Nicholas Abbey who was battling laminatis was euthanized after suffering complications from colic. He was 7 years old. Along with winning those two races, he finished 3rd in the 2012 Turf behind Little Mike and Point of Entry as well as finishing second in the 2012 Sheema. He faced the likes of Danedream, Nathaniel, defeated Midday and finished third to the legendary Frankel. Riden thorough most of his career by his trainer Aiden O'Brien's son Joseph, he won nine time in 21 starts for $7,863,492 in earnings.
Here is Nick and Joseph winning the Turf when the latter was just 18 years old!
Rest well young man, we'll miss you. Condolences to his owners Coolmore as well as Aiden and his staff at Ballydolye in Ireland.
