Welcome to the first night of the Met Mile Vault! Over the next three days, I will be sharing six horses who won the Met Mile. Tonight, I'm going to start with Langfuhr and Ghostzapper.
In 1996 and 1997, Langfuhr swept the three major seven furlong races in New York (Carter, Forego and Vosburgh). The Canadian bred by Danzig won the Met Mile to complete the sweep of seven/mile races. The 1997 Met Mile would end up being his final race.
Langfuhr now stands at Lanes End in Kentucky. He has sired 2007 Eclipse Champion Lawyer Ron, Canada's Triple Crown winner Wando and 2004 Kentucky Derby Imperisim.
In 2003, Ghostzapper was the third best 3yo in Bobby Frankel's barn behind Empire Maker and Peace Rulers, in the 2004 he blossomed into an undefeated horse and Horse of the Year honors. In 2005, in what would be his final race, he won the Met Mile.
Ghostzapper stands at Adena Springs in Kentucky where he has sired 2010 Bluegrass Stakes winner Stately Victor.
So that's it for tonight, more coming tomorrow.
