Pedigree Look: El Fasto

Note: Four posts this week will be about the winning sire and dam of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby. Today's post is the winning Oaks dam, El Fasto.

Profile: The former Gov. of Kentucky, Breaton Jones had already had one Oaks winner in Proud Spell (Proud Citizen) who is a great-great granddaughter of the great sire Northern Dancer (Nearctic). On Friday, he got his second Oaks winner. This time Believe You Can (Proud Citizen), a great granddaughter of Northern Dancer. Her dam, El Fasto was unraced in her career and by far Believe You Can is her best foal.

El Fasto's sire is the wonderful El Prado (IRE) (Saddler's Wells). A G3 winner in his native Ireland, he was also named the Champion 2yo in 1991. He would go onto sire some very nice horses including BC Mile winner Artie Schiller, Pacific Classic winner Borrego, Eclipse Turf Horse Champ and budding superstar sire Kitten's Joy, G3 winner Chindi, G1 winner Sweet and Ready, G1 winner Winter Memories and of course multiple G1 winner and sire of 2 Oaks winners himself Medagalia d' Oro. His dam Lady Capulet (Sir Ivor), won the Irish One Thousand Guineas and finished second in the Coronation Stakes in England. She is also the dam to Entitled (IRE) (Mill Reef) who finished second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and third in the Irish Derby.

Her dam is Taegu (Halo), a winner of 1 race in her career. Her best foal on the track is G2 winner Classic Elegance (Carson City). Taegu's dam, Nomo Robbery (No Robbery) won 3 races and finished second in the Thelma Stakes at the Fair Grounds. She is the dam of G3 winner Chorwon (Cozzene), G2 placed Yukon Robbery (Yukon) and stakes placed Ansong (Mizzen Mist).

El Fasto saw Canadian Frontieer last year for a foal to be born this year. At this time of writing, a Live Foal Report has not been filed.
