20 years ago was the only time that a female jockey has been in the Winners Circle in a Triple Crown race when Julie Krone rode Colonial Affair to his Belmont win. Unfortnally it was over shadowed a bit with the breakdown of Prarie Bayou. That could change on Saturday when Rosie Napravnik is expected to ride Unlimted Budget (Street Sense) in this years edition.
If they where to win, Rosie would not be the only one to make history. Budget would become only the second filly since Tanya to win the Belmont since 1905 which is the year she won. She certinally has a chance with wins in the Rachel Alexandra and Fair Grounds Oaks. Of course the TC trail for Louisiana has been red hot this year with the LA Derby producing the KY Derby runner up and third place finisher (Golden Soul and Revolutionary), and Preakness third place finisher (Mylute), while the LeComte produced the Preakness winner (Oxbow). That being said, she could only manage third in the KY Oaks behind her stablemate Princess of Sylmar.
If there is any positive is that the filly that broke the Tayna curse, Rags to Riches was trained by Todd Pletcher, who also happens to be her trainer. However Rags' big brother Jazil had won the race the year before, and Budget's female doesn't have that strong of stamina that Rags had. Still she had one of the best riders (of either sex) on her and that is a monster plus. While I'm not sure they can win, I'm rooting for Rosie and Budget to show the boys that girls rule!
