Breeder's Cup Preview: Juvenile Fillies and Fillies Turf

Two baby races today, with the Juvenile Fillies and Juvenile Fillies Turf for 2yo fillies.

Juvenile Fillies Turf
This is really one of two races that are wide open. Ironicly the other is the sister race to this one, the Juvenile Fillies. Bewhere of the Kitten's Joy daughter, Lisa's Kitten. KJ has been off to a great start at stud and could end up being the best sire of that 04 3yo's. And that's saying alot considering this includes Tapit (sire of Careless Jewel and Stardom Bound), Smarty Jones (sire of Backtalk), and of course Birdstone (sire of Mine That Bird and Summer Bird). But those three are second year stallions while KJ is still a freshman, we'll see. The Euros are always going to be tough in this race, but last year an American won with a Euro finishing second, so anything to happen.

Juvenile Fillies
Another wide open race, but I see it a bit more clearer then the Fillies Turf. With no Mi Sueno (injured and retired), Awesome Maria (not pre-entered) or Hot Dixie Chick (not pre-entered) the favorite should be Blind Luck. The daughter of Pollard's Vision won the Oak Leaf Debutante without Mi Sueno in the race. Devil May Care and Negiliee are the other two G1 winners in the race, but beware of She Be Wild. While she lost as the favorite, if she gets a good trip she could rebound. It does help that her trainer had won the Juvy Fillies in 2006 with Dreaming of Anna. A horse who I think is sitting on a big race is Beautician, after running against Hot Dixie Chick.

Some other notes: Pre-entries for the Breeder's Cup are out, Medaglia d' Oro will be standing for $100,000 in 2010. Sea the Stars will be standing at Gilltown Stud which is owned by the Aga Khan, among the mares he'll be seeing, is last year's Arc winner Zarkava. And last, but not least the final portion of the Rachel Alexandra auction will begin tomorrow and last till next week. The prize? A visit with Rachel at the Fair Grounds.

Tomorrow, the F/M Turf and Ladies Classic.
