Countdown to the Delaware Handicap: Urbane

Note: Today's post wraps up the Countdown to the Delaware Handicap series. Today's post is about Urbane.

Year Born: 1992
Color: Drk. Bay/Brown
Sire: Citidancer
Dam: Dumfries Pleasure
Broodmare Sire: Pleasant Colony

Profile: Urbane began her career out west at Santa Anita where she was entered for a $50,000 tag. She won and wasn't claimed from the race. That turned out to be her lone non-stakes race as from her second race out, it would be stakes only. In her next race she would win the Moccasin before finishing 2nd in the 1994 Hollywood Starlet. Her 3yo season wouldn't start off as well, with a 3rd and a runner up finish in the first two starts before winning the Ashland. After a runner up finish in the Kentucky Oaks, she wouldn't run again until October where she would win the Maryland Million Oaks.

Her next win would be 3 starts later when she won the 1995 Los Altos Handicap at Bay Meadows then followed it up with a win in the Geisha Handicap at Pimlico. After a few third place finishes in stakes out in California, it was time for another trip east. This time to Delaware for the DelCap. Sent off as the post time favorite, she won by 3 1/4 lengths going gate to wire over Alcovy and Shoop. She would follow her DelCap win up with one final win. This time in the John Morris Handicap (now the Personal Ensign at Saratoga. She finished her career with a 6th place finish in the Spinster. Her final totals where 8 wins in 18 starts with earnings of $1,018,568.

As a broodmare, Urbane would be the dam of G1 placed Suave (A.P. Indy) a winner at a mile and quarter just like her and G3 placed Worldly (A.P. Indy), also a winner at a mile and a quarter. Urbane's youngest foal is a yearling by Distorted Humor.
