Who is next year's Starlet?

It's the final Grade One for 2yo Fillies, this is where we will find out who will be the early favorite for next year's Santa Anita Oaks. Lets take a look at the field:

9th (4:35)
Hollywood Starlet S. (G1)1 1/16 Miles (All Weather Track) | Fillies | 2 Year Olds Stakes | Purse: $300,000
Post # Horse Jockey Weight Claim Price Equip. Med.
1 True Way of Grace Atkinson P 120 Blk-On L
2 Nina Fever Gomez G K 120 L
3 May Day Rose Bejarano R 120 L
4 Luna Grande Espinoza V 120 L
5 Turbulent Descent Flores D R 120 L
6 Big Tiz Valenzuela P A 120 L
7 Zazu Smith M E 120 L
8 Tell a Kelly Rosario J 120 L

There are people who are high on Turbulent Descent whose sire Congrats was just moved to from Florida to Kentucky. Nina Fever was one of the first 2yo winners of the season along with being the first for her sire Borrego, keeping with the new stallions Luna Grande reps her sire Mass Media. The vetern sires Tapit (it's really hard calling him a vetern sire, since this is his third crop, but that's what he is) with Tell a Kelly and Zazu,  Yes It's True with True Way of Grace and Tiznow with Big Tiz. Then there is one of my all time favorite horses Rockport Harbor whose daughter May Day Rose is my pick for this race. Here are the reasons why:
  • Turbulent Descent has never gone two turns and although her second dam is a full sister to the dam of Swift Temper, so she should get better with distance. Still, this is a big class step up for her.
  • Tell a Kelly bombed in the BC Juvenile Fillies and should rebound here, but this does not set her up well for next year's Oaks should they want to go that way.
  • May Day Rose is coming in a bit under the radar. Like TD and Kelly she is a stakes winner, however her stakes win was around 2 turns while those two was around 1.
  • Rockport Harbor so far has been a bit of a synthetic specialist. Not only is May one of two stakes winners for Rocky, but both of his stakes winners have been on a synthetic racecourse (Bear's Future being the other, and Minutesandtouches is G3 placed on synthetic as well).
Tell a Kelly for second and Nina Fever for third.

  1. Great article about horseracing. You have a amusing and interesting style. Maybe next years winner will come from Mountain Trail Training Center

We just won the Pa Nursery with Der Meister, keep an eye on him.
