Lecomte preview

First Furlongs and Horses' vid of the year. It's the start to the road for the 2015 Louisiana Derby. Here is the field for this year's LeComte.

STAKES. 1 Mile 70Y Dirt. Purse $200,000. LeComte S. (Grade 3). FOR THREE YEAR OLDS. By subscription of $200 by Saturday, January 3. (Louisiana Derby early bird nominees automatically subscribed); $1,000 to enter; $1,000 additional to start. Supplemental nominations of $5,000 will be accepted at time of entry which shall include all fees. $200,000 Guaranteed of which 60% to the winner, 20% to second, 10% to third, 4% to fourth, 2% to fifth and 1% to finishers sixth through ninth. Weight: 122 lbs. Non-winners of $36,000 allowed 2 lbs.; $25,000, allowed 4 lbs.; $20,000, allowed 6 lbs. (Maiden and claiming races not considered in estimating allowances). Starters to be named through the entry box by the usual time of closing. The Lecomte Stakes will be limited to fourteen (14) starters. Preference to horses with the highest lifetime earnings at the time of passing the entry box. Any horse excluded from running because of the aforementioned preference shall be refunded the entry fee or supplementary nomination fee if applicable. International Star (Fusaichi Pegasus): 4th in the Kentucky Jockey Club and 9th in the BC Juvenile Turf. Won the Grey 3 back.

Tiznow R J (Tiznow): 3rd in first two career starts. Broke his maiden last time out.

Four Leaf Chief (Lookin at Lucky): 3rd in an Allowance/Optional Claimer and won the Louisiana Legacy. Also has a win in the Louisiana Cup Juvenile.

War Story (Northern Afleet): First start of year. 2 for 2 so far.

Hero of Humor (Sharp Humor): 9th in the Spectacular Bid and 10th in the Smooth Air. Trainer pulled off major upset several years ago with horse by the same sire in the LA Derby.

Savoy Stomp (Medaglia d'Oro): 5th in the Nashua and 3rd in Allowance/Optional Claimer. Winner of the latter Bluegrass Singer won the Mucho Macho Man

Runhappy (Super Saver): Won lone start with 2 days left in 2014. 

Killingit (Candy Ride (ARG)): 6th in Allowance/Optional Claimer and broke maiden. Won first race at Churchill.

Dekabrist (Street Boss): 8th in the Mucho Macho Man, and 4th in the Pasco. Raced against some nice horses last year.

Another Lemon Drop (Lemon Drop Kid): 3rd and 1st in Allowance/Optional Claimers. Stakes debut.

Eagle (Candy Ride (ARG)): 3rd in the Kentucky Jockey Club and won an allowance. Finished ahead of International Star in the KJC.
