Breeders' Cup Preview: Mile (Dirt and Turf) and Marathon

Three previews today, both the Dirt and Turf Mile as well as the Mile!

Marathon

Although injury ended the defending champion Calidoscopio's career, South America will still be repped. It appears that Ever Rider will be among those entered into the race. Also possibly going are last year's 3rd place finisher Atigun.

No Dark Horse for this race.

Dirt Mile

For many of the horses in this race the Sprint is too short for them and the Classic is too long. One horse who fits right in that wheelhouse is Goldencents who won 2 Derby preps earlier this year, but a mile and a quarter is just a bit too long for him. His niche seems to be the one mile distance, but lack of races in that catagory has forced him to go to sprint races where he has held his own with three runner up finishes. He should enjoy the stretch out to one mile. Others possible include Verrazano who also won a Derby prep, Alpha who seems these days only to win at Saratoga and Pants on Fire who looks to be finding his form again.

Dark Horse: Brujo de Olleros- has only won once in the States, but he gave Greydar everything he could handle on Super Saturday at Belmont. Brazilan bred who raced in Uruguay, the last time a South American bred who raced in Uruguay came to the Breeders' Cup? He won (Invasor (ARG)).

Turf Mile

Sure the Shadwell Mile came off the turf and the defending champ (and Horse of the Year) Wise Dan was defeated for the first time this year, that shouldn't hamper his defence hopes... that much. Silver Max who gave W.D. the defeat is no slouch on the turf. Also possible, Euros Magician, Olympic Glory and Toronado, the latter being possibly the best shot since Goldikova. Other the W.D. and Max, look out for Jeramino, No Jet Leg, Za Approval and Obviously as well.

Dark Horse: He Be Fire N' Ice- Here is a horse who is peaking at the right time. He has only been out of the money once on the turf and was second in his last race.
