Delaware Handicap preview

Tomorrow is the biggest race of the year for my home track of Delaware Park. It's Delaware Handicap day! And after years of trying to get G1 status, it will run as the highest grade designation you can get this year. Lets take a look at this years field.

9th Race - Delaware Park - Saturday, July 20th, 2013

1 She's All In 6 M L 112 Carrasco Victor R. Von Hemel Donnie K.
2 Summer Applause 4 F L 118 Cintron Alex Brown Chad C.
3 Royal Delta 5 M 123 Smith Mike E. Mott William I.
4 Authenticity 6 M L 118 Centeno Daniel Pletcher Todd A. SCRATCHED
5 And Why Not 4 F L 112 Navarro Joshua Matz Michael R.
6 Centring 5 M L 115 Ortiz, Jr. Irad Albertrani Thomas

Authenticity will actually be scratched out of the race as she will instead stay in New York to face Zenyatta's little sister in the Shuvee. On paper, this is Royal Delta's race to lose. She is also the defending champ of this race and with Tiz Miz Sue skipping the race, it opens the race for second up. And Why Not is the local hope this year, locals tend to do pretty well in the DelCap (see Tiz, Grace, Lemon Drop Mom). If Royal Delta goes down in defeat, keep an eye on Centring. Third in the Phipps and has the pedigree for a mile and a quarter. Those two will go 1-2 in some order with the longshot She's All In my pick for third.

Sadly there is no Sussex this year and the only other stakes race on the card, a filly/mare sprint, don't think has a Dust N Diamonds type of horse like there was last year. I promise to have photos posted on Sunday or Monday!
