Vox Populi is more like Mimo de populo

Wise Dan, Frankel, Royal Delta, Shanghai Bobby and I'll Have Another. All very talented horses in their own right and this years finalists for the Vox Populi (Voice of the People in Latin) Award that was created 3 years ago by Penny Chenery the owner of Secretariat. There is a problem though, there are at least 3 horses who are missing from this list. No Shackleford? No Black Caviar (since Frankel is included you have to include the Australian superstar)? No Paynter?

Sadly for all three horses, they are not included in the finalists. Of course some people will say that what hurt Paynter's case was that his connections lied to Jay Privman of the DRF. Yet they included a horse whose connections where lambasted for being a loanshark, having past drug postives and well known breakdown (Team I'll Have Another). How does that make any sense? To me it doesn't, but sadly it looks like that they really didn't think this through enough and just chose 3 BC race winners, a horse named after a late US trainer who raced in England and the Derby/Preakness champ, just because.

I should note, that all of these horses (except for Bobby) deserve their place there. With that being said the Vox Populi is turning out to be the Mimo de populo (Farce of the People in Latin). On the right hand side of the blog you will see a poll, included in the poll are 5 horses who I thought deserved to be included and the five already mentioned. The winner of the poll will be crowned the Forlonge Coegi Fan Champion (that's Furlong Drive Fan Champion in Latin). The poll will close on December 20th at 1pm EST.

December 5th Update: Shackleford and Paynter have been added to the Vox Populi poll. The poll on the blog will remain up though.
