2012 Fasig Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale Preview (Day 1)

The Saratoga Selected Yearlings Sale up in Saratoga Springs, NY is one of the most important yearling auctions in the world. This year's edition will take place on August 6^th and 7^th. Today's post will focus on Day 1 which consists of Hips 1-94. These picks are based on pedigree and/or the race records of the sire and dam.

Hip 2 chestnut colt English Channel x Heavenly Ransom (Red Ransom): Sire is a multiple G1 winner and Eclipse champion and the sire of Strait of Dover. Dam is a G3 winner and ½ sister to G3 winner Dilemma (Grand Slam) and G2 placed Capitano (Belong to Me).

Hip 4 chestnut filly Stormy Atlantic x Indy Flash (A.P. Indy): Same sire as Get Stormy, Stormello and Icey Atlantic. Foal is a ½ sister to G2 placed Galloping Gal (Victory Gallop) (she's the dam of G1 winner Liasion (Indian Charlie)) and G3 placed Khalila (Elusive Quality).

Hip 8 bay colt Malibu Moon x Jill Robin L (Precocity): Same sire as Declan's Moon, Life at Ten and Devil May Care. Dam is a G2 winner and the colt is a ½ brother to G3 placed Capitol Appeal (Successful Appeal).

Hip 11 bay colt Medaglia d' Oro x Kim's Blues (Cure the Blues): Same sire as horses such as Rachel Alexandra, Warrior's Reward and Gabby's Golden Gal. The colt is a ½ brother to stakes winner High Blues (High Yield), G2 placed Lotta Rhythm (Rhythm) and G2 placed Lotta Kim (Roar) (of course the dam of Preakness winner and Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d' Oro)).

Hip 13 chestnut colt Tapit x Kokadrie (Coronado's Quest): Same sire as Tapitsfly, Hansen and Careless Jewel. This guy is a ½ brother to mulitple G1 winner and Eclipse Champion Kodiak Kowboy (Posse).

Hip 16 drk. bay/brown filly Indian Charlie x Lady's Legacy (Matchlite): Sire also has Indian Blessing, Uncle Mo, and Fleet Indian. Dam is a stakes placed and is the dam of G3 placed Shameful (dam of Eclipse Champion Indian Blessing (Indian Charlie)) and G2 placed Little Matth Man (Matty G).

Hip 18 Keepherinthedark chestnut filly Kitten's Joy x Langoureuse (Gilded Time): Sire is a multiple G1 winner and Eclipse champion as well as the sire of Stephanie's Kitten, Banned and Dean's Kitten. The dam is stakes placed in both France and the US and is a ½ sister to G1 winner Healthy Addiction (Boston Harbor) and stakes placed Arch Lady (Arch).

Hip 21 bay filly Elusive Quality x Lemon Kiss (Lemon Drop Kid): Sire is a former World Record holder at a mile on the grass and has the likes of Raven's Pass, Sepoy and Smarty Jones as children of his. The dam is a stakes winner and is a full sister to G1 placed Kiss the Kid (Lemon Drop Kid).
