The past few years the breeding shed has said goodbye to pensioned stallions Storm Cat, AP Indy and Kingmambo. Today, another great stallion joined their ranks. Dyanformer (Roberto) was pensioned by Three Chimneys after a cardiac episode on Saturday. From what it sounds like, he'll be okay, but TC didn't want to put that pressure on his heart anymore.
At the track, Dynaformer was not that bad of a racehorse. While he tended to falter in G1's, he did finish 5th in the Travers behind Forty Niner. He is a G2 winner with wins in the Jersey Derby and Discovery Handicap. Here is his Discovery win.
Now 27, he has sired 20 G1 winners.Among them are the late Shadwell Mile winner Purim, Queen Elizabeth II and two time BC F/M Turf runner-up Film Maker, one of the greatest steeplechasers of all time 5 BC Steeplechase winner McDynamo, Melbourne Cup winner American, Diana winner Sand Springs, his most recent G1 winner Karlovy Vary in the Ashland and multiple G1 winner (including the Flower Bowl twice) Riskaverse. Here is Purim's Shadwell win:
However there are two horses who when you think of Dynaformer, you think of them. The first is Perfect Drift (out of Nice Gal by Naskra) who made 50 starts in his career with eleven of them being wins. Among those wins where the Spiral, Hawthorne Gold Cup, Washington Park Handicap and the Stephen Foster Handicap. He also finished third in the 2002 Kentucky Derby and the 2005 Breeders' Cup Classic. Currently he splits his time between his owners farm in Kansas and the KY Derby Museum in Louisville. Here is his Hawthorne Gold Cup win:
The other is prob. one of the most beloved, if not the most beloved Derby winner of all time. Of course I'm talking about Barbaro (out of La Ville Rouge by Carson City). In his short career he won the Laurel Futurity, Holy Bull, FL Derby and the KY Derby. Of course an injury in the Preakness may have cost us our first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Barbaro's courage during his recovery and battle of laminatis inspired many around the world. Of course the euthanization of him in 2007 reignited the fight for a cure to the hoof decease. He is buried at Churchill with fellow DE based superstar Eight Belles. Here is his Derby win:
Hopefully, Dynaformer continues his recovery and returns to being his grumpy self. Get well and Thank you for the memories!
Edit: Sadly around noon EDT on April 29th, we lost Dynaformer. RIP Big Guy.
