If you remember two years ago on Through Chat, I had posted about a then 2yo named Arcata, and how I started to follow him. Here is an update:
A few days after I posted the post about him, Arcata was claimed by Amy Randolph after finishing second in a race with a tag of $4,000. In his very next race which he won, he was reclaimed by David Geist for $5,000. While he wouldn't win again until October of 2010, he would finish worse then 3rd only once (6th place finish on June 22, 2010 which happened to be my birthday). His final win was in November of the same year. All of last year and for the first two months of this year, it appeared that he was not the same horse he was as a 2, 3 and 4 year old. It appears that he is now retired (since it doesn't have his latest workouts posted) and there is no death report on file with the Jockey Club. However, they are no required to report one I believe.
Sadly, Arcata's dam Arroyo Cottage passed away in 2010 while either in foal or after foaling a Broken Vow foal. His sister Cozy Cottage had a Birdstone colt this year, not sure who she's been booked back to. Wherever he is, I hope that Arcata is having a happy life.
Arcata is entered March 10, 2012 in race 6 at Penn National.
