One word: Arlington

It's here! Arlington's big three turf races will be run tomorrow. Rain apperently is in the forcast for the Chicago area, so lets hope that it holds off until after the races.

8th Race - Arlington Park - Saturday, August 13th, 2011
STAKES. 1 1/4 Mile Turf. Purse $400,000. Secretariat S. (Grade 1). FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS. (03:52 PM) (10)
PP Horse A/S M/E Wgt Jockey Trainer
1 Newsdad 3 C L b 119 Rosario Joel Mott William I.
2 Ziyarid (IRE) 3 C 119 Lemaire Christophe P. De Royer-Dupre Alain
3 Treasure Beach (GB) 3 C L 123 O'Donoghue Colm O'Brien Aidan P.
4 Crimson China 3 C L 119 Maragh Rajiv Motion H. Graham
5 Casino Host 3 C L 119 Dominguez Ramon A. Brown Chad C.
6 Suntracer 3 C L 119 Bridgmohan Shaun Block Chris M.
7 Banned 3 C L 123 Gomez Garrett K. Proctor Thomas F.
8 Derby Kitten 3 C L 123 Leparoux Julien R. Maker Michael J.
9 Willcox Inn 3 C L 123 Albarado Robby Stidham Michael
10 L'aiglon 3 C L 119 Geroux Florent Dorochenko Gennadi

With no Air Support in the race (Shug didn't think he was ready), this is Banned's race to lose. This is all likelyhood would have included Animal Kingdom, instead stablemate Crimson China goes. I'm going with a KJ in here, except it's not Banned. I think aptly named Derby Kitten wins, Banned for second and Wilcox Inn for third.

9th Race - Arlington Park - Saturday, August 13th, 2011
STAKES. 1 3/16 Mile Turf. Purse $750,000. Beverly D. S. (Grade 1). FOR FILLIES AND MARES, THREE-YEARS-OLD AND OLDER. (04:33 PM) (11)
PP Horse A/S M/E Wgt Jockey Trainer
1 Stacelita (FR) 5 M L 123 Dominguez Ramon A. Brown Chad C.

3 Fantasia (GB) 5 M L 123 Maragh Rajiv Sheppard Jonathan E.
4 Upperline 4 F L 123 Graham James Stidham Michael
5 Dubawi Heights (GB) 4 F L 123 Rosario Joel Callaghan Simon
6 River Jetez (SAF) 8 M L 123 Soumillon Christophe de Kock Michael F.
7 Cheetah (GB) 4 F L 123 Gomez Garrett K. Clement Christophe
8 Pachattack 5 M L 123 Geroux Florent Butler Gerard A.
9 Eclair De Lune (GER) 5 M L 123 Alvarado Junior McAnally Ronald L.
10 Romin Robin 5 M L 123 Santana Jozbin Z. Kassen David C.
11 Never Retreat 6 M L 123 Bridgmohan Shaun Block Chris M.

While she has already made one start in the US, this will be Stacelita's Team USA debut now that she has a US based trainer and a US based jockey. River Jetez was second against boys in Dubai earlier this year. Cheetah won the Dick last time out, defending champ Eclair De Lune isn't the same horse she was last year, but she loved the surface. Never Retreat will try to become the first Arlington based filly to win the race (EDL does not count since she's based in Cali). I'm going with Cheetah, Eclair De Lune for second and River Jetez for third.

10th Race - Arlington Park - Saturday, August 13th, 2011
STAKES. 1 1/4 Mile Turf. Purse $1,000,000. Arlington Million S. (Grade 1). FOR THREE-YEAR-OLDS AND OLDER. (05:15 PM) (10)
PP Horse A/S M/E Wgt Jockey Trainer
1 Rahystrada 7 G L 126 Russell Sheldon Hughes Byron G.
2 Tajaaweed 6 H L 126 Graham James Peitz Daniel C.
3 Dean's Kitten 4 C L 126 Leparoux Julien R. Maker Michael J.
4 Zack Hall (FR) 4 C L 126 Soumillon Christophe Delzangles Mikel
5 Gio Ponti 6 H L 126 Dominguez Ramon A. Clement Christophe
6 Proceed Bee 5 G L 126 Emigh Christopher A. Becker Scott
7 Cape Blanco (IRE) 4 C L 126 Spencer Jamie P. O'Brien Aidan P.
8 Mission Approved 7 H L 126 Espinoza Jose L. Chatterpaul Naipaul
9 Wigmore Hall (IRE) 4 G L 126 Turner Hayley Bell Michael L. W.
10 General Perfect 8 G L 126 Gomez Garrett K. Thompson Glenn R.

In all honestly, many of these horses are at crossroads. Wigmore Hall was second in the Sec. last year, but has only had 1 win since. Rahystrada is coming off a win at Colonial. Tajaaweed won the prep for this race , the Arlington Classic. Mission Approved who last year gave Gio Ponti all he could handle in the Man O' War, beat him in the Manhattahn and then finished 4th in this year's Man O' War. Proceed Bee has been a fixture for years. However, the two horses that give me alot of interest are going in oposite directions. They would be Cape Blanco and Gio Ponti. They finished 1-2 in the Man O' War. Cape Blanco is the horse on the upswing and Gio Ponti is on the downswing. So who am I going with? Neither! As much as I would love to see Mission Approved win, I think it will be a huge upset. I'm going with Dean's Kitten to do what his dad could not, win the Million. Mission Approved for second and Cape Blanco for third.

Lets hope all the horses come back safe and sound!

Also thanks to everyone who has inquired so far for the special project! There I'll be accepting inquires throughtout the rest of the weekend and on Monday. After that I'll hopefully have some replies to people who are interested in helping me out.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! Recap will be coming on Monday.
