Breeders' Cup Vault: 2007 Mile

When you think the most famous Oklahoma bred race horses, you think of 1986 Horse of the Year Lady's Secret. However, in 2007 she gained company when a grey son of Kipling owned by a group that was set up like a hedge fund shocked the world. This is the story of IEAH and how Kip Deville made them a household name. Kip's sire Kipling, a son of a sister to AP Indy and Summer Squall, his dam Klondike Kaytiewas by Encino a half to Terlingua and Royal Academy.

Kip entered the Mile in 07 off a 2nd place finish in the Woodbine Mile. The Europeans where bringing over Excellent Art and Jeremy. My Typhoon, a daughter of the great Urban Sea was making her final start in the Mile, add in new superstar Purim there was going to be alot to handle for Kip and the up and coming Nobiz Like Shobiz.

The rest they say is history:

Kip would return to the races the next year, defeating his longtime rival Showing Up for the first time at Keenland. After a second place finish to Goldikova in the Mile at Santa Anita, 2009 brought great promise for Kip to show that he was the best miler in the World. Unfortanlly he would manage to win only once more. Shortly after that win he started to race poorly, and eventually coliced. That colic led to laminatis, and on June 11 of this year, Kip Deville was euthanized at the age of 7.

Tomorrow: the only 2 time Classic winner Tiznow
