Painting a Devil

Remember last week I said that the main focus for 3yo's for the next few weeks was turf? I lied. This week is a big weekend with the Mother Goose and the Iowa Derby. Of course the Mother Goose features Devil May Care and Biofuel, while the Iowa Derby is the first race back for Winslow Homer.

7th (9:18)
Iowa Derby (G3)
1 1/16 Miles | Open | 3 Year Olds Stakes | Purse: $250,000
Prg. # PP Horse Jockey Trainer Wt. Claim $ Equip. Med. ML
1 1 Down With Dixie Borel C H McGee Paul J 116 BL 6-1
2 2 Vow to Wager Albarado R J Romans Dale 122 BL 5-1
3 3 Thiskyhasnolimit Bridgmohan S X Asmussen Steven M 119 BL 4-1
4 4 Winslow Homer Dominguez R A Dutrow Anthony W 122 BL 2-1
5 5 Forestry Type Alvarado J Bennett Dale 116 BL 9-2
6 6 Concord Point Garcia M Baffert Bob 116 BL 5-2

I honestly think Winslow will need a race to get into form. However this isn't a strong group of horses, with the exception of Thiskyhasnolimit and Concord Point. I would not be suprised if Winslow wins and gets ready for the Jim Dandy in fine form, but I just have this feeling that Sky will win. He did beat Vow to Wager last time out, and is out of a half to Bernardini. A mile and sixtheen is probley his max, but with Winslow coming off some time off, he could be vernable here. Concord Point for third.

9th (5:17)
Mother Goose S. (G1)
1 1/16 Miles | Fillies | 3 Year Olds Stakes | Purse: $250,000
Prg. # PP Horse Jockey Trainer Wt. Claim $ Equip. Med. ML
1 1 Biofuel Da Silva E R Baker Reade 121 L 5-1
2 2 Ailalea Prado E S Pletcher Todd A 121 L 3-1
3 3 Devil May Care Velazquez J R Pletcher Todd A 121 L 6-5
4 4 Connie and Michael Maragh R McPeek Kenneth G 121 L 7-2
5 5 Katy Now Desormeaux K J Pletcher Todd A 121 L 8-1

This is a big, big race. The return to the girls for Devil May Care, and the dirt debut of Biofuel. Keep an on Connie and Michael, she set the pace in last year's BC Juvi Fillies, in which Biofuel got absolutly mugged by Negliee. DMC should win this race, but with her known consistancy... I think Biofuel may need a race or two in order to get used to dirt which leaves me with Connie and Michael as my pick. DMC for second.

So that's it for this weekends previews! The HRBA's where announced Weds, and the Press Release will be up sometime tonight. Monday is the first Summer Series Live Chat, so that will double as the Weekend Recap.
