All the talk has been about his more accomplished stablemates, Super Saver, Devil May Care two of them. However, I think Discreetly Mine is coming into the Derby under the radar. A half brother to G1 winner Discreet Cat, Discreetly Mine has shown that he can win at longer distances then his mile loving brother. He finished second in the Champagne Stakes as a 2yo beating Dublin, and won the Risen Star earlier this year. He did finish fourth in his final prep, the LA Derby, but he was beaten for third by a neck.
One thing that Discreetly Mine has going for him that Discreet Cat did not, his sire. He's by 2003 Horse of the Year, Mineshaft who won at a mile and a quarter. Where as Discreet Cat is by Foresty who was known as a miler. Although he did finish third in the Haskell.
I'm not saying that he'll win, but he has a decent chance to pick up a check. He'll be ridden in the Derby by Javier Castellano who was on Discreet Cat when he broke his maiden. He rode Discreetly Mine in his last two races.
Tomorrow a breakdown of both the Derby and Oaks!
