Who would have thought that there was no way in h*ll that a BCC win by Zenyatta could be topped with what was announced on Saturday. Jerry & Ann Moss have decided to bring her back for her six year old season! Except, I'm going to be a little bit of a Debbie Downer for a few minutes. I really hate to be (and you can flame away, I don't care), but have to be. I'll believe it when I see it as they said "she's retired", "we want to keep her in California until the weather gets warmer". Really? If she was retired, then she should have been sent to Kentucky to get used to the weather, she doesn't have to go to a stallion right when the breeding season starts. You could wait until March or April to go, and still get a Feb or March baby next year.
Also who knows if Zenyatta as a six year old will be as good as Zenyatta as a four and five year old. Just think, Rachel Alexandra is now a year older, Life is Sweet is a year older, plus there is a new challenge Bambera. Of course those three could turn out of have so-so seasons as well.
Dispite being a bit of a Debbie Downer, I am very glad that she is returning. I love both her AND Rachel (Not a huge LIS fan, and Bambera seems to be an interesting filly), and once again I feel that the Older Females are stronger then the Older Males. I feel sorry for Mine That Bird and Summer Bird, they are probley thinking "Oh great, Chip (Wooley)! Tim (Ice)! Why do we have to face these two, they're mean! (Tongue in cheeck of course).
I expect her to make her first start in either the Apple Blossom, or the Oaklawn Handicap. Although I won't be suprised if it's in the Santa Anita Handicap either. If the Apple Blossom is her first start, it could be the dream matchup that everyone has been wanting as that could be Rachel's first start of the year as well. It's going to be an exciting few months as to where both of these fillies are going.
I still plan on having the weekend recap tomorrow, but Glided Gem has been scratched from the El Encino. So I'm going with Justwhistledixie for the win.
