Happy Birthday Ms. HOY! (And a sad aniversary)

Four years ago today, a bay filly with an broken up blaze was born in Kentucky. Her dam, a stakes winner, rejected her and she was raised on a nurse mare. Her sire, a G1 winner, was overlooked with being in the same rookie crop as Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones, Belmont winner Birdstone, Haskell winner Lion Heart, Wood Memorial winner Tapit among others. In the end, Medgalia d'Oro was the one at the top of the mountain, and most of the credit belongs to our birthday girl.

If you still don't know who it is, well then I think you should take a look at this.

Happy Birthday Rachel Alexandra!

Even while celebrating a happy occasion, today is also the aniversary of the death of another champion. Three years ago today, Barbaro was euthanized after a valient battle with Laminatis. On Monday it will be the 1 year aniversary of one of my all time favorite's Kip Deville's final win, and last but not least I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I'll be back sometime next week with more posts.

  1. Mr Pletcher just said Rule may go to the Sam Davis at Tampa Bay Downs - but my boy Uptowncharlybrown will let him know who's boss.

Thanks for remembering Barbaro - who should rate far above RA's b-day, but that's just my opinion.
