DelCap Preview Day!

Well it's finally here, the two local preps for the Delaware Oaks and the Delaware Handicap.

First up the Grade 3 Obeah for 3yo's and up, a prep for the DelCap. Obeah was a two time winner of the DelCap, but is more known as the broodmare of the ill fated Go For Wand.

7 Unbridled Belle (KY) 6/M LA R Migliore 117 T A Pletcher
8 Skylighter (KY) 4/F LA M E Smith 123 R J Frankel

This is really Unbridled Belle's race to lose. She is the defending champ and the only one of last year's DelCap top three still in training. I think Skylighter will give her some fits, but the rest of the field is quite outclassed, I like All Smiles who has exeperience over the track for third after Belle and Sky. Morena is an interesting horse, but she might need a race to get used to American racing.

The final race on the Delaware card is the Susan's Girl for three year old fillies. Like Obeah, Susan's Girl is a two time DelCap winner and more known for her famous foal. In this case Copelan who would go onto be the broodmare sire of many horses including G1 winner Purge and one of my favorite horses G2 winner Rockport Harbor.

8 Garden District (KY) 3/F LA* R Migliore 116 T A Pletcher
9 Bon Jovi Girl (KY) 3/F LA J C Caraballo 116 T F Ritchey

This is really a three horse race: Payton d'Oro, Garden District and Bon Jovi Girl. Payton was the winner of the Black Eyed Susan Stakes, starting a sweep on the big Pimlico stakes on Preakness weekend. Garden District was second against the boys last May, and has won only once since that race. However it should be noted that she's only started twice since that win, and well the horse who finished in second that perticler race she won went on to do bigger and better things (aka Rach). This is her first race over six furlongs, and last but not least Bon Jovi Girl, since I saw her finishing second to Mani Bhavan in a maiden, she has won 2 listed stakes at DP and recently finished second in the BES. So my top three: Payton, Garden, BJG.

Tomarrow's Royal Ascot it's Cannonball vs Diabolical, as Takeover Target has been scratched.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, I will be at the track tomarrow, Sunday with it being Father's Day, I will be spending sometime with my grandpa and Monday is my birthday. So I will have a full recap of all the stakes races I previewed this past few days on Tuesday!
