I had planned to write about a few horses who raced and won at older ages (Which I consider six and up, although some might consider that five and up) in honor of Stump who won this year's Westminster. However, a trip to the ER (the hospital we go to is next to Delaware Park), scrapped those plans. So here is a list of a few horses who did extreamly well as older horses. I will note that most of these are geldings.
John Henry- 2 time winner of the Arlington Million, plus several other G1's on both turf and dirt, two time Horse of the Year.
Evening Attire- He won his G1 as a four year old, but gave several young horses a run for their money as he got older.
Silver Wagon- G1 winner at age 2 and 6.
Kelso- 5 time Horse of the Year,
Forego- Sprint champion, 2 time Met Mile winner, 3 time Horse of the Year
Cigar- Breeder's Cup Classic winner, 2 time Horse of the Year, former co recorder holder for consutive wins (broken last year by Pepper's Pride, that I prefer not to talk about) and former North American earnings holder (broken last year by Curlin, but both of their earnings where inflated as they both won the Dubai World Cup which is the richest race in the World).
Triple Crown winners:
Citation- Former Co-owner of consutive wins.
Assult- He was retired as a four year old, but found to be sterile and retired perminatly at age 7.
I'm sure there are more to this list, but I'll have to do some research for next week.
Also I found this really neat software, where we can do a live chats and have them saved. So May 2nd,2009, Thoroughbred Chat will have it's 1st Annual Kentucky Derby Day Live Chat. It will start up at 4pm EDT (Eastern Daylight Savings Time) and end about an hour after the race is over. It will then save and be archived for everyone to see. Here is the site we will be using:
I will put a reminder up a few days before hand, so stay tuned. In order to get used to the software, I will be hosting a chat on Sunday for the Martha Washington, I'm not sure when I'll start it as I have to find out when post time is.
