Happy Valentine's Day everyone! In honor of the day of Love today's post is all about horses who have Heart, Sweet, Candy,Chocolate, Flowers and/or Love in them. Since there are many, many horses with those words in their names, I'm going to be focusing on a handful of these horses.
Here they are!
Love (IRE) 1998 gelding Royal Academy x Kentmere (FR)- there are several horses named Love, but I chose this one since well the Irish are lucky. Love started 23 times between England and his native Ireland. However, he wasn't that successful with only 2 wins in those 23 starts and only could manage hit the board once with a third place finish. His sire of course is a half to Terlingua the dam of Storm Cat.
Flower Bowl 1952 filly Alibhai (GB) x Flower Bed- What can be said about this wonderful filly other then not only was she a good race horse, but excellent in the shed. She ran 32 times winning seven of those including the Delaware Handicap. As a broodmare, she threw Hall of Famer Bowl of Flowers, and supersires Graustark and His Majesty.
Sweet Life 1996 filly Kris S. x Symbolically- A decent runner with 13 starts and 4 wins including a win in the Providencia. However, like Flower Bowl it would be as a broodmare where she would shine. She is one of the few mares (Primal Force being another one) to throw two Breeders' Cup champions. Sweet Catomine who won the 2004 Juvenile Fillies and Life is Sweet who won the 2009 Ladies Classic.
Chocolate Candy 2006 colt Candy Ride (ARG) x Crownette- The one horse whose name is made up of two words that are required to be on this list. It's interesting to point out that he was bred and owned by Jenny Craig, as in yes THAT Jenny Craig. Dispite his undiet name, he comes from a very regal pedigree. His sire was undefeated in his native Argentina and here in the US. His dam is out of an Alydar mare who happens to be a half sister to Alydar's arch rival Affirmed. To top it off his broodmare sire won the Triple Crown undefeated (the only one to do so). CC has started 17 times with 4 wins, however 3 of those wins came in stakes races. An announcement to where he will start his 2011 season should be coming soon.
Heart Shaped 2006 filly Storm Cat x Twenty Eight Carat- A half sister to AP Valentine who finished 2nd in the Preakness and Belmont. Heart Shaped won only once in her 6 starts, but did finish second in the inagural Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Honorble Mentions: Candy Ride (ARG), Life is Sweet, Sweet Catomine, Hearted.

Baseball Horse Names
Posted by
Rachel
I love baseball, just as much as I love horse racing. Baseball is one of the things that my dad and I could agree on. Before his death last year, he had asked me to use my MLB.com account so he could watch his beloved Mets, and I agreed to let him. While he unfortanlly never did, I still love the game to this day. Tuesday I was bored, so on Twitter I started a hashtag called #Baseballhorsename. All of a sudden a very nice conversation started and all these names that are sometimes over looked as baseball names or terms came out of woodwork. Below is just a sample of names that are associated with baseball weather they be people, places or just terms (special thanks to Chris Hernandez (tencentcielo) and Linda Dougherty (LindaMDougherty) on Twitter for the inspiration). Hope you enjoy!
The pedigrees of the horses will follow:
(f) Female
Grand Slam (Gone West x Bright Candles by El Gran Senor)
Slambino (Grand Slam x Bloomy by Polish Numbers)
Bases Loaded (f) (Northern Dancer x Pennant Star by Bold Ruler)
Relief Pitcher (IRE) (Welsh Term (IRE) x Bases Loaded by Northern Dancer)
Stolen Base (f) (Herbager (FR) x Bases Full by Ambiorix (FR)) (This family is actually loaded with baseball terms, Bases Loaded and Relief Pitcher are from this same family. However the two most famous members of this family (other then La Trioenne) do not have baseball terms in their names. They are 2005 2yo Champion filly Folklore and 2004 KY Derby and Preakness winner Smarty Jones)
Lets Go Mets (shiver, don't like the Mets) (Impeachment x Queen Candace by Candi's Gold)
Go Yankees (double shiver, hate the Yankees) (Yankee Victor x Jet to Vegas by Roman Diplomat)
Zim and Torre (Two Punch x Motel Malibu by Bates Motel)
Lights Out Lidge (Afleet Alex x Cervante (AUS) by King's Theatre (IRE))
Ball Four (Grand Slam x Making Faces by Lyphard)
Fenway Faithful (Grand Slam x Lemon Tart by Deputy Minister)
Field of Dreams (f) (Meadowlake x La Finale by In Reality)
There are several other names that I didn't include on this list, but if you have any other interesting Baseball Horse Names, leave a comment below this post.
Since this is a somewhat off weekend (no offence to the Sword Dancer, but most of the horses in the race are a bit over the hill), and that Sunday I start my vol. job for the season, there won't be an Weekend Preview this week. However, there will be a post tomorrow I just got to figure out what to do.
