Back in 2008, a Royal Anthem gelding by the name of Presious Passion shocked the world with his gate to wire win in the United Nations. Although he had won a G3 early that season, he was an afterthought when Champs Elysees, (the full brother to Casique whose arch rival English Channel had won the race the previous year in a track record time) was in the race. After being sporatic for the months afterwards he finished the season with a win.
Flash foward a year, PP is defending his UN title. Unlike last year where he was coming off a 2nd place finish, he won his prep the Monmouth (which was created the year before for Big Brown who won the race before reinjuring his foot and retired). Once again PP took the lead and never gave it up, but this time he was not a longshot. It was as the second choice. He would go on to do okay the rest of the year including winning the Hirsch at SA before finishing second in the BC Turf. Sadly, he really has not been the same horse since 2009. Although he won the Mac Diarmida last year, but has not won since. He is currently working at Monmouth, but will not be in this year's UN as he has yet to start since his 5th place finish in the Sunshine Millions Turf.
For now lets enjoy his 2009 UN win.

Wow that was impressive
Two stakes races this weekend impressed me. The first one was yesterday's UN, when defending champ Presious Passion opened up by almost Secretariat numbers and set a course record in the process. And please tell me why Court Vision was in that race? A mile and a quarter is his max distance. The other one was today's American Oaks, where Gozzip Girl won very impressivly over a nice field. While she doesn't have a chance to win 3yo Champion Filly (That was sewn up in May), she could make some noise on the turf female divison in the upcoming years. Also winning G1's this weekend where Cat Moves and Zenzational (with Zenzational beating older males, he and Tom Fool winner Munnings could meet up in the King's Bishop which could detirmine the top sprinter in the country. Of course this is my hope. Cat Moves will face Justwhistledixie in the Test next).
The DelCap and Del Oaks nominations closed yesterday, I'm hoping that the lists will go up tomarrow. Also Musket Man is done for the year with a bone bruise :(.
Next weekend: Man O War (this was the race Curlin lost to Red Rocks in), Princess Rooney (the return of Indian Blessing after her destarious US seasonal debut) and the Smile (Benny the Bull continues his comeback).

Mother Vanity
Well it was an exciting Saturday as the two most popular horses in racing right now where in action. Their seperated by mere minutes and niether of them disapointed. I could tell you about them, but I think Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta will speak for themselves.

Zenyatta's 2 1/2 length win in the Vanity
As you can see in Zenyatta's race, TVG called that perticler hour the Girl Power Hour, that would be because of her and Rachel. Now even though Jess Jackson said that he would not take Rachel to Cali, that doesn't mean they won't meet up somewhere, somehow. This weekend, Jerry Moss the owner of Zenyatta (with his wife Ann), said that he is willing to ship East for to face Rach. I won't hold my breath for this ever happening, but if it does I would be crossing my fingers to go. One place they won't go most likely is my hometrack of Delaware Park, sigh if the Delware Handicap was held a little bit later in the year, then it could work. Either way, I have a feeling that it will be fablous field.
And wouldn't it be something if I'm surprised by either or both them coming. Yes I know wishful thinking, but it can happen. Will it, doubt it.
Next weekend is the UN, the question is can last year's upset winner Presious Passion show that he can run with the big boys again. We'll have to see!
