Derby Top 20 (Final) 4/27

A week from today, we will know who will be going in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. This is the final Derby Top 20 of the year for me. While this is not the order I think they will finish, I do think the top 5 horses are the ones to beat. Thanks for hanging in with me during this week by week list. All of the spreadsheets are now avaliable to see where I started and ended.

Derby Top 20 4/20

With just one week to go in the Derby Top 20 list, there where several horses on last week's list who made their case for #1 and then there where those who faultered. In the end, I decided to go with my heart and put who I did want to be in the top spot there. I know it isn't the most logical or sexist pick for that perticler spot, but it made the most sense to me. Here is this weeks list:

Derby Top 20 4/13

This Saturday, the Derby will only be three weeks away, time is starting to run out for some horses including several who are this weeks list. There is a new #1 this week thanks to the defeat of Uncle Mo at the hooves of Toby's Corner. Due to the injury to Arthur's Tale, who would have debuted on this list at #9, I had to slot a horse who may end up not even be going to the race in Master of Hounds. The reason why I did this, as I really didn't trust any of the other horses that I put in the Other Horses Considered Catagory just yet. That could change depending on the outcome of this weekends two big races in the Bluegrass and AR Derby. Both races could also effect the Queen's Plate which will be in June at Woodbine, as there are a few horses from both of this weekends races who are eligible thanks to being CAN breds. However, none of the horses that are listed in the Top 20 or Other Horses Considered are eligible for that race. Here is this weeks list:



Just to let everyone know April 27th, will be the final Derby Top 20 list. That stay all of the weeks lists that where previously complied will also be avaliable so you can compare from where I started, to where I've ended.

Derby Top 20 4/6

Big weekend coming up as several of the top horses will be in action including #'s 1, 3, 4, 6, 10, 14, and 18 on this week's list. There should be a huge shakeup next week if anyone faulters big time. Here's this week's list:

Derby Top 20 3/29

This is more then likely the only week that I will be putting up the list on a Tuesday. Next week my plan the list back to Weds. This week there are some small changes, but they are more towards the bottom of the list with some slicing and dicing going on. For this reason while Mucho Macho Man dropped, he didn't drop as much as he will next week. Also all twenty postions are now filled with three newcomers and 1 horse being dropped. This weekends Florida Derby will tell more of who has a chance and who doesn't. Let the fun begin! Also there are a few horses on this week's list that need to do well in their next preps if they even want to get into the Derby field (as of right now Nehro is the 20th horse, but he will need to get another prep in as several of those below him still have yet to run their final preps). Also some sad news to report, Zenyatta has lost her Bernardini foal. Apperently she will be bred again.

Derby Top 20 3/23

Not much change this week with it being really the final weekend of preps before the final preps began this Saturday. There isn't that much of a change in the Top 10 and there have been a few changes made to list to remove horses who are now off the trail or had bad races. Look for the list to be somewhat different by the time it's reposted next week.

Derby Top 20 3/16

Going 18 deep this week as we inch closer to the First Saturday in May. With the upsets the past couple of weekends the list went into a bit of a flux. As we get closer to the final preps, the picture will become clearer and possibly you'll start seeing the early names creep up again. There will more then likely one more week of 18 horses before I finally have 20 horses and the real fun begins.

Before I post the list however, I wanted to share my disapointment of Sweet Ducky being sold. As you may have heard by now, the Holy Bull runner up has been sold to the Chechen President who is contraversial. This is a colt I fell in love with last year. First with his name, then with his races. I wish him the best in the UAE Derby, but I somewhat hope he does not do well there. Bussiness is bussiness I know, but that doesn't mean as a fan I have to be happy about it.

Derby Top 20 3/3

Abeit a day late! I'm a little bit lazy this week, so there is no who dropped off portion of the list. However that will be returning in 2 weeks as there won't be a list next week. Why not? A. I'm a day late in getting this week's out and b. there is really isn't any major races for the major players until next Saturday when the Timely Writer and Tampa Bay Derby will be run. The Oaks list however will be returning next week following this weekends Santa Anita Oaks.

Derby Top 20- 2/23

Up to 15 horses on the list now! The goal is to be up to 20 by the time the end of March rolls around, just in time for the final preps. You'll see some changes in races for some of the highly regarded contenders. Also you'll notice that there is no Bind who won his maiden impressively over the weekend. That's because he is not going to be making the Triple Crown.

Derby Top 20 2/16

Another week, another list. After next weekend's races you will start seeing the conteders pull away from the pretenders.



Last week was the last break of the Derby Top 20 list and the list will now be published every week until the Derby. No Oaks list this week as there really was no change in the order, however the girls will return next week.

We have a new #1 for this week. The question is how long can he hold onto it.



The boys will be taking the week off next week due to not having really any major preps until next weekend.

Yes the Derby list is a day late, but because of the exciting news of Zenyatta's first mate, I moved it back a day. This weeks list as actually very hard to put together because we are really going to see the first solid preps this weekend. The plan is for the lists to be out on their respective days next week.

Derby Top 20- January 19th

First list of the year! Orginally I was going to have 12, but decided on a Top 10 until after this upcoming weekend's races are completed. There is quite a shake up with 4 new faces onto the list and an ever growing Also Considered List. Look for two of those names to be on the Top 12 list next week (unless the Lacomte winner turns out to be something special).

December 22- Derby Top 20

Here is the final list for the Derby Top 20 in 2010. The next update will be January 19 when the list will expand to 12 horses.

Introducing the Derby Top 20

Believe it or not we are less then six months away from the Run for the Roses. I decided it would good time to introduce the Kentucky Derby Top 20. However, for the next few months only five horses will be listed. By the end of January there will be 10 horses, by the end of February 15 and by the end of March 20. The goal of this list is to see how many horses from the Derby Top 20 list make into the gate for the 2011 Derby. More then likely I will be right 1 out of 5 times. It will certinally be an interesting journey. For now here is the first Derby Top 5.



The list will be updated on Weds.

The next update will be the Weds. after the Hollywood Futurity.
